Discord integration
Connect a Discord server and RookHelm posts moderation activity where your staff already is: bans and mutes as they are issued or lifted, servers going offline or coming back, and new ban appeals. You can also map in-game groups to Discord roles, so a player’s Discord roles follow their standing.
Only the community owner can set up the integration. Notification delivery is included on the Hobby plan and up.
Connect your server
Section titled “Connect your server”- Open Discord in your community’s sidebar and click Add to Discord.
- Discord asks which server to add the RookHelm bot to and shows the permissions it needs. Pick your server and approve. You need the Manage Server permission on the Discord side to add a bot.
- Back in the dashboard, pick a Default channel. Notifications post there, and the choice saves as soon as you pick it.
That is the whole setup. A delivery health badge on the same page shows whether recent notifications are landing.
Choose what posts
Section titled “Choose what posts”Open Notifications in the sidebar to pick which events post: ban issued, ban lifted, mute issued, mute lifted, server offline, server back online, and appeal submitted. All of them are on to start with.
Each event has an editable message template with variables like the player name and the reason. Use Test fire to post a sample to your channel - test messages are clearly marked as tests and never ping anyone.
Server alerts have their own controls: turn them off per server, or set quiet hours so a nightly restart window does not page anyone. Short disconnects, like map changes, never trigger alerts.
Sync roles
Section titled “Sync roles”Map in-game groups to Discord roles under Role assignments on the Discord settings page. When a player joins or leaves a mapped group, RookHelm grants or removes the Discord role to match.
Two things have to be true for a player’s roles to sync:
- The bot’s role sits above the mapped roles in your Discord server’s role list. Discord only lets a bot manage roles below its own, and the dashboard warns you when the order is wrong.
- The player has linked their Steam account. Use Post link button to drop a “Link Steam account” button into a channel of your choice. Players click it and sign in through Steam once; until then, role sync quietly skips them.
Resync roles reconciles everyone at once. It removes mapped roles from members who no longer qualify as well as granting missing ones, which is why it asks you to confirm.
Disconnect
Section titled “Disconnect”Disconnect on the Discord settings page stops all posting and unlinks the server. Your event choices, templates, and role mappings are kept, so reconnecting later picks up where you left off. The bot itself stays in your Discord server until you remove it there.
